MEMBERS of 3rd Barrhead Scout Group beavered their way to more than £1,000 at a recent fundraiser.

Young Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers all stand to benefit from the event at St Andrew’s Parish Church in Barrhead which generated close to £1,000.

Not only do the children have a number of outings they can look forward to, they will also be taking a range of brand new tents with them thanks to the generosity of all those who attended the fundraising fayre on Saturday, March 25.

A portion of the funds will be used to spruce up the area the group’s Explorers use each week.

Third Barrhead Scout Group leader David Logan helped to ensure the day ran smoothly and thanked the mums, dads and grandparents involved for their donations.

He told the News: “There was enough raised to buy some new equipment and to go to camp.

“We are going to Lapwing Lodge in June but also some of the money is going to be used for our explorers who have got a bit up the back of the church. They’re going to use it to buy paint to smarten it up a bit as well.

“The Scouts have been there for the last 60 to 70 years.

“Beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers will all benefit.

“There was soup, home baking, tea and coffee and we had a tombola and a bottle stall. It was a good day.

“We want to thank all the parents and relatives that came to support the day.”

David paid special tribute to the leaders and assistant leaders who are involved with the organisation.

In the Scouts, they are: Lynne Robertson, Yvonne Craig, Dougie Craig, Alan Farquhar and Ross McCracken.

Also praised were cubs leader Maureen Boyd, her son Alistair, Craig Berry, Jillian Higgins, Claire Hendry and Andrena McCracken.

Also deserving of a mention were those involved with the 3rd Barrhead Beavers: leader Rebecca Jones, assistant Kirsty Murdoch and assistant group Scout leader Catherine Burnett.
