IT’S been a busy fortnight for the St Luke’s High Press Club, with a raft of activities and events around the school to report on.

This week S2 pupil Kaleb Queen covered a ‘Developing the Young Workforce Day’.

The aim was to help students consider the options open to them when they leave school.

Pupils heard accounts of the working world from professionals before forming groups to take part in a speed dating-style event with advisors.

The day rounded off with a presentation based on The Apprentice TV show in which the youngsters told Lord and Lady Sugars why they should be hired for an imaginary position.

Below is Kaleb's article:

ST LUKE’S S2 pupils took part in ‘Developing the Young Workforce day’ where the pupils got to meet lots of people from different jobs and got a taste of what the jobs entail and what education you need.

The day was thoroughly enjoyable and was a great way to help pupils when picking subjects is so close around the corner. The day was organised by science teacher Miss McBride and there were so many people involved, including teachers.

The best part of the event was working in a team and speaking to different people about jobs, and working with the person doing the presentation was another highlight.

When everyone was together working, it made me feel happy. The performance was a laugh and a great way to get to know the different jobs.

It was good meeting new and talking to different people who work and hear that you don’t always need the best qualifications.

When we got to present, I enjoyed watching how the other groups promoted their advisor using posters, poems and plays. I also enjoyed speaking to different people and learning what it’s like in different fields of work.

Meeting loads of different people and finding out the skills you need for a job was fun. I also enjoyed the team working tasks.

St Luke’s High Press Club member Bethany Ingram this week took time to highlight the school’s newly-formed Credit Union.

Here is her report:

S3 ADMIN and IT have proudly introduced St Luke’s very own Credit Union which is run in association with Barrhead’s Pioneer Mutual Credit Union.

The class has worked hard to produce the necessary paperwork, from applications forms to pay in booklets and welcome all pupils from S1 to S6 to join.

The aim is to help pupils save money to promote responsible spending habits and also help our young learners gain an appreciation of the value of money.

Our first registration and pay in day took place on February 6.
