ARTIST impressions of the new multi-million pound Arthurlie Family Centre have been released.

In-house architects from East Renfrewshire Council (ERC) unveiled the designs to give Barrhead residents a first glimpse of what the £5.3 million complex will look like once completed.

The centre will offer seven playrooms, bright modern learning spaces and underfloor heating, with level access throughout.

Each playroom features a canopy and an access door to allow youngsters to make the most of a secure garden all-year-round.

And the material and colour schemes of the building have been designed to create what architects describe as a “calm, nurturing environment”.

Councillor Elaine Green, East Renfrewshire’s education and equalities convener, said: “Seeing these excellent artist’s impressions really brings this project to life and gives us an idea of how the centre will look.

“The learning areas are bright and spacious and will offer a fantastic environment for our young people at the start of their educational journey.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the building starting to take shape and I know it will become a real asset for our communities once it opens.”

The family centre is being developed by the council to bring early years services in Auchenback under one roof.

Scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, transfer from the existing facility will take place shortly afterwards.

The new centre will offer 120 morning and 120 afternoon places for three to five-year-olds.

In addition, it will offer 50 part-time places for children aged from birth to three years old and provide a community space for families.

There will also be accommodation to enable staff to work with parents while their child is learning.

Last month, The News told how the remains of the former Auchenback Primary School had been cleared to make way for the development after councillors approved the removal of asbestos-contaminated soil.
