AMATEUR photographer Phyllis Buchanan from Newton Mearns has been announced as the winner of a national Instagram photography competition run by ScottishPower Renewables.

The competition gave budding photographers the chance to win a digital camera by entering their most impressive pictures of Whitelee Windfarm, considered to be the world’s most Instagrammed Windfarm.

Phyllis’s winning entry was chosen for its artistic flare, stunning scenery and of course, her adorable daughter Amaia, aged 7. Along with the winning photo, the final shortlist of seven photos can be found on the ScottishPower Instagram page.

With over 350 entries, photos posted include breath-taking landscapes, friends walking along the many trails, night time skies and the windfarm on a crisp winter’s day. Whitelee Windfarm attracts thousands of people each year from across the globe.

The onsite visitor centre offers free, year-round activities and events for both children and adults. Located less than 20 miles from Glasgow, Whitelee is operated by ScottishPower Renewables and is the UK’s largest and most visited onshore windfarm. Since the Visitor Centre opened in 2009, more than 500,000 people have passed through its door.

Winner, Phyllis Buchanan, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have won, especially my daughter, Amaia, the star of the shot. She’s been telling all her friends she’s famous! We love going up to Whitelee as a family, it’s a beautiful part of the country and the kids just love it, no two trips are ever the same. We take pictures every week so it’s brilliant to say they’re now competition-worthy, it’s certainly a surprise.”
