A MAN was allegedly stabbed in the chest in a Barrhead street brawl.

Police rushed to Main Street last Friday after concerned residents reported seeing a group of men involved in a fight.

It is thought that several men took part in the brawl, with officers receiving reports that one was allegedly in possession of a knife.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “On Friday, we received reports of a disturbance on Barrhead Main Street at around 11.50pm.

“The initial report was that multiple men were fighting in the street and that one of the men may have been in possession of a knife.

“On arrival, a 20-year-old man was found to be suffering from what is thought to have been a knife wound to his chest.”

The man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, where his injuries were not described as life threatening.

The spokesperson continued: “As a result of our enquiries, a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”

Police said the 21-year-old suspect was due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday, charged with an offence of serious assault.

In a separate incident in Barrhead’s Main Street, a woman was found to be in possession of a quantity of pills, which police suspect are a controlled drug.

The 41-year-old was stopped and searched by police at around 7.30pm on Saturday.

The pills have been sent for analysis to determine what they are, and the woman has not been charged with any offence, pending the results of the tests.
