ST LUKE’S High School started the new term by announcing the launch of its first Press Club.

Member pupils invited The News along to learn more about the venture which will see youngsters report on a variety of school events – and have articles published in this paper.

From fundraisers and stage shows to sport tournaments and trips, students in S2 to S6 will bring readers the very latest news on all things St Luke’s High every two weeks.

Lauren Chase, Press Club leader and biology teacher at the Springfield Road school, said: “My idea is that we have the opportunity to share our events with the wider community.

“Now is the official starting point. We’ve had articles advertising the school show, a couple of them wrote short articles about a science trip for S2 and the other one was on the S2 girls’ football team.

“They’ll be catching up with the pupils, asking questions, making notes, taking pictures.

“It’s about sharing school events with the community. It can be about anything and at the same time allow the kids to practice their literacy skills.

“It’s really just about them seeking things out themselves that are going on in the school or outwith the school involving pupils.”

The school show Ms Chase was referring to was St Luke’s High’s annual production which takes place at Eastwood Park Theatre tonight.

A team of young newshounds will cover the ‘Back To The 80s’ performance for The News.

There certainly is a lot to look forward to for the Press Club journalists in the weeks and months ahead.

Ms Chase added: “Previously with large events we would try and pass on articles to newspapers but we want this to be a regular thing.

“This month we’ve got the school show, interdisciplinary learning across creative arts to do with Scottish culture and there’s a drama performance for S3.”

“And there’s the Rights Respecting Schools girls’ football tournament this month.”
