THRILL seekers from across Dumbarton and the Vale are invited to take their fundraising to new heights this year as part of a special charity challenge.

Action for Charity is calling on locals to take on Britain's highest mountain as part of the organisation's famous Ben Nevis Charity Challenge.

The challenge is on for teams of four to climb the 1,345 meter mountain, cycle 25 miles and canoe a circuit of Loch Lochy.

A challenge filled with grit and determination, it offers a chance to kick start the year on a positive note by putting the fun in fundraising.

The challenge also offers locals the chance to take in stunning vistas, showing off the highlands in all of their glory.

Now in its fourth year, more than 300 teams have taken on the mighty mountain challenge and between them have raised almost £750,000 for more than 100 different charities.

The course record stands at an incredible six hours, one minute and the slowest time to date is 13 hours, three minutes - however, this team did have a thoroughly enjoyable time out on the Scottish Highlands.

What's more, teams are invited to take on the Ben Nevis Charity Challenge to raise cash for an organisation of their choice.

According to figures around 125,000 people complete and a further 100,000 partially climb Ben Nevis each year, most of which are made by walkers using the well-constructed Mountain Track (Pony Track) from Glen Nevis on the south side of the mountain.

For climbers and mountaineers the main attraction lies in the 600-metre (2,000 ft) high cliffs of the north face.

Among the highest cliffs in the UK, they harbour some of the best scrambles and rock climbs at all levels of difficulty, and are one of the principal locations in the UK for ice climbing.

The Ben Nevis Charity Challenge 2017 will take place on Saturday, June 17.
