RIVER City star Frank Gallagher, best known as on-screen gangster Lenny Murdoch, officially opened the new Wright's Taxi office in Alexandria on Saturday.

The TV personality joined owner Allan Wright and his team at the grand unveiling of the new Main Street premises which began serving clients back in October.

Cutting the ribbon, Frank welcomed members of the community to the improved facility, congratulating the bustling business on the move.

Families flocked to the special event to catch a glimpse of the Shieldinch hard man and enjoyed an afternoon of goody bags packed with sweet treats, toys and magnets all handed out with the help of Santa and his elves.

And there was a festive tipple on offer for the grown-ups - and plenty of taxis to ferry guests indulging in the season to be merry home.

Allan was delighted to organise the event and share the moment with the community who helped make it all happen.

"Saturday was great fun," he told the Reporter.

"It was good to see so many people come down and take part in the fun and it was brilliant Frank could come and officially open the new office.

"I wanted to do something to say thank you to customers for their continued support and welcome new clients too - they are the people who have helped us get to where we are today."

Things have gone from strength to strength for the Vale business since opening in October 2009, with the fleet of Wright's Taxis expanding from 15 to 45 in less than a decade.

The move will not only offer staff a more comfortable working environment but it is also fully accessible to wheelchair users with a ramp at the back of the building and disabled toilet facilities.

Allan continued: "The new premises is bigger and more fit for purpose so we're looking forward to continuing to offer people a quality and reliable service.

"We are grateful for the support from everyone in the community and are always looking to the future.

"We'd also like to wish our customers old and new a Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year."
