UPLAWMOOR can now boast a brand new play park.

Residents of all ages joined together last Thursday to celebrate the opening of the refurbished village play area.

A £75,000 overhaul sees the area benefit from new play and exercise equipment that can be used by tots, teens and adults of any age.

Pupils from Uplawmoor Primary, teachers, parents, councillors and members of Uplawmoor Development Trust (UDT) enjoyed an afternoon of activities on Thursday to officially mark the opening of the upgraded play area.

Convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth, councillor Tony Buchanan, said: “We know how important the play park is to the Uplawmoor community as a meeting place and a focal point in the village, and we worked together with Uplawmoor Development Trust to fund and rejuvenate the old play park area.

“The park now includes equipment for youngsters of all ages and next to the play area is a new addition – an outdoor fitness experience for adults. I’m sure residents will benefit from this fantastic new facility for many years to come.”

East Renfrewshire Council teamed up with Uplawmoor Development Trust to upgrade the play area and replace out-of-date equipment.

In addition to the £30,000 investment from the council, the trust also secured external funding from the Scottish Community Landfill Fund, £10,000 in total, the ERC Whitelee Wind Farm Fund, £30,000 in total, and Big Lotto Awards For All contributed £5,000 to complete the transformation.

Before carrying out the work local people had their say on what facilities should be included to ensure the play area met the needs of those who will use it the most.

And in response to a request from residents, adult fitness equipment was installed.

It features a special smart code which when used with a smart phone shows guidance on how to use it.
