AN event in Barrhead Foundry will help launch a new anti-smoking drive.

East Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership’s Smokefree Service will be raising awareness of the dangers of second-hand smoke at the Barrhead Foundry next week.

The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the dangers of second-hand Smoke in the home and car, focussing specifically on the dangers faced by children.

There will be a visual interactive display which is designed to mimic a typical living room set.

Staff will use augmented reality software to show visitors the invisible toxins of second-hand smoke floating around and inside of them which will be mirrored on to a TV screen.

There will be opportunities to have a photo taken as a keepsake to help motivate future behaviour change.

By taking smoking right outside, the proportion of children exposed to second-hand smoke in the home and car will be reduced from 12 per cent to 6 per cent by 2020 and this will help put Scotland on the path to becoming a Tobacco-free generation.

The event will take place in the Barrhead Foundry on Wednesday, October 19 from 10am until 4pm and is open to all age groups.

Smokefree Service staff will be on hand to offer advice and information on reducing second-hand smoke in the home and the effects smoking has on your health.
