RESIDENTS from across Dumbarton and the Vale are being urged to indulge in their favourite treats in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Locals from across the area are hosting coffee mornings to raise cash and awareness for the national cancer charity.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.

Every year, Macmillan asks people all over the UK to host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to the organisation.

Last year alone the event raised £25 million and this year Macmillan is aiming to raise even more.

The fun-filled event first started 26 years ago way back in 1990 and has been making history ever since.

The idea was simple, guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process.

It was so effective, people gathered together did it again the next year – only this time nationally.

Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £138 million for Macmillan.

However, although the concept of the event might be simple the reason for hosting these events is far more serious.

According to Macmillan figures there are now 2.5 million people in the UK living with cancer.

By 2030, it will be four million people, and the nacional charity wants to be there for them all.

One in three of us will get cancer, and it will be one of the toughest things we’ll ever have to face.

Macmillan Cancer Support's goal is to make sure no one faces cancer alone.

The charity provides medical, emotional, practical and financial support, as well as campaigning for better cancer care.

And because cancer affects more than just those facing it, they there for friends and family too.

So whether you're a tea jenny or a coffee lover - raise a cuppa for Macmillan this month and help make a difference on September 30.
