A SWAN has been rescued after it became trapped in a Barrhead dam.

The Scottish SPCA was called out to the dam near Dovecothall Street to help the poor animal which found itself stranded in an area of deep water.

Animal Rescue officers had to brave the cold temperatures to free the swan on August 23.

Emma Bonner, of the Scottish SPCA, said: "A member of the public who was cycling past noticed the swan was stuck in a small area of the dam.

"The area was too high for him to walk out of and didn’t have enough room for him to take off.

"We were trying to coax him towards us but he kept swimming away so eventually I decided to put on a dry suit and wade into the water.

"Thankfully, I was able to catch him and release him back into the dam where he happily swam away."

She added: "It was lovely watching him swim off quite the thing, but I think he had a laugh to himself that I was left there soaking wet!"

Anyone who discovers an injured or distressed animal should call the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
