CLYDE Shopmobility is celebrating a momentous milestone.

More than 1,000 members have joined the organisation over the last five years thanks to hard work and an active presence in West Dunbartonshire.

Over the years the team has been proud to help people with mobility problems or visual impairments to be more independent, to get around and to overcome physical obstacles and accessibility limits

Jackie Maceira, chairman of Clyde Shopmobility said: "Our aim is to give people with physical disabilities the opportunity to access a shopping centre, to a park, to go around without excessive physical effort."

Clyde Shopmobility is a registered charity that provides free use of mobility equipment such as mobility scooters and wheelchairs to help people who have limited mobility or visual impairment to get around as well as a sighted guide service. The organisation works in partnership with Action on Hearing Loss to provide a free support for people with hearing loss and tinnitus.

It’s located in Clydebank, close to the shopping centre, and in Balloch, close to the bus stance.

Clyde Shopmobility project is developing: they are going to have satellite points in Alexandria, Dumbarton and Loch Lomond Shores.

Every year staff and volunteers attend events organised for their members: to visit a site or museums, to go for a scooter route in some parks, to organise attraction’s activities.

There are also opportunities for training, such as courses for volunteers and staff to develop new skills. The team spirit is an integral part of this charity that every day provides a service to the community in West Dunbartonshire.
