Strathclyde University...1

Doune Castle...1

Doune lost a cruel late equaliser, a deflected shot earning the University a draw, with the Castle again rueing missed chances.

After 7 minutes, the keeper did well to block Lukasz Duszynski’s first time shot.

Sean Heaver drilled the corner low across the 6-yard box but no one could take advantage and a defender conceded another corner. Ryan Duncanson directed his powerful downward header towards the left corner but the keeper reacted quickly to gather.

Strathclyde passed up a good opportunity to take the lead after 13 minutes.

On 29 minutes, Lukasz Duszynski struck the ball on the run but a defender did well to make a lunging challenge and send the ball over.

Doune came close to breaking the deadlock after 33 minutes when Dylan McGowan turned and hooked a half volley narrowly wide.

The teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 at the break.

Doune edged 1-0 ahead with a brilliant goal after 60 minutes.

Murray Docherty won possession inside the Castle half and quickly played an incisive pass out to Dylan McGowan, hugging the right hand touchline. From 25 yards out, McGowan wasted no time in driving a fierce curling cross towards the back post.

Sean Heaver timed his run to perfection and bulleted an unstoppable header on the run high into the net from 8 yards.

Heaver directed another header on the run inches over the bar before Niall McClure headed wide from a good position. A minute later, Murray Docherty slanted his header two yards wide.

Strathclyde celebrated an unlikely equaliser after 76 minutes.

Leicester collected the ball 30 yards out and hammered a quick shot that Steven Fotheringham looked to have covered.

Unluckily for the Castle, the ball took a wicked deflection off the heel of another University player, redirecting the shot into the opposite corner from the already committed Fotheringham to make it 1-1.

Colin Burke, Sean Heaver and Niall McClure all had good efforts saved by the keeper as Doune continued to press.

Right on time, the University keeper defied Sean Heaver one more time with another fine save to preserve a point for a fortunate Strathclyde.
