CHILDREN of Africa will be stopping off at venues across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire as part of their UK tour.

The group was formed by the charity Educate the Kids, who raise funds by bringing the choir over to sing so that they can have an education.

Since 1998 the charity has built two schools and an orphanage and have included many kids on a feeding program.

The choir have also visited the area five times now in the past 10 years.

Some of the places they will be visiting this month are Craigielea Care Home, Renfrew, Renfrew High School, Cook and Indi's at The Quay, St Anthony's Primary School in Spateston and Glasgow Airport.

They will have some concerts too that will be for the general public including IKEA Braehead on August 19 at 3.30pm; Braehead followed by SOAR on August 20 at 12 noon; Renfrew Baptist Church on 21 August for the 11am service.

They will also be performing at Silverburn Shopping Centre on August 22 at 12 noon followed by St Johns Church in Barrhead from 7pm.

The Central Methodist Halls in Gauze Street will be hosting the biggest venue of their tour with space for 700 guests.

Their main concert, which is supported by a few other guests, including Paisleys own singer-songwriter Lisa Kowalski will be on Friday, August 19 at 7.30pm.

Tickets for this concert can be purchased from the neighbouring Rainbow Turtle Shop and the offices of Derek Mackay MSP in Hairst Street, Renfrew and the office of Gavin Newlands MP, Porterfield Road, Renfrew.

They are priced at £8 each or £5 concession.

Volunteers Lynn and Mike Baldwin from Renfrew have been involved with the Educate the Kids charity since sponsoring a young boy Alex over 10 years ago.

Mike said: "The kids are very fortunate to be staying at the Bible Centre in Inchinnan for the duration of their stay and McGills have supplied transport to enable the choir to get around again.

"They will be visiting various locations around Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire during their stay.

"This includes a performance at Craigielea Nursing Home in Renfrew, entertaining the different dementia and brain units.

"There are 700 spaces for the main concert at Central Methodist Halls and these event are usually a sell out so be sure to get them quickly.

"We know from past experience that the kids always get a wonderful welcome when they visit.

"We hope to see lots of people at the big concert in support of these wonderful children."
