EAST Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald spoke in 91 debates in her first year since the General Election.

The independent website TheyWorkForYou.com also lists Oswald as asking one hundred and thirty-three Written Questions in her first year of office.

Her activity in the House of Commons is "well above average" according to the MP, who compared her performance with that of her predecessor Jim Murphy.

Mr Murphy is listed as having only spoken seven times in his last year, according to the same website.

The former HR manager raised local, national, and international issues in Parliament, including pension policy, the impact of benefit sanctions, problems in the financial services sector, the conflict in Syria, and protection of religious minorities.

Kirsten said: “It has been a real honour to serve the people in the many communities in East Renfrewshire over the past twelve months.

“When I was elected, I promised to work hard for every person in our local area, and I have done that every single day.

"I look forward to building on my record as a hard working local MP in the years to come”.

Over the past year, Oswald served as the SNP Spokesperson on Armed Forces and Veterans.

In that role, she helped force the Ministry of Defence to increase compensation for those affected by mesothelioma and other cancers due to their military service.

She also led a debate on a National Defence Medal to be given to all those who serve in the armed forces.

Oswald also now chairs two all-party groups.

She founded a group in support of the Chennai 6, a group of UK citizens, including Billy Irving of Neilston, facing five years imprisonment in India.

Since Oswald opened her constituency office in Thornliebank, she her team have dealt with cases from constituents covering all walks of life and issues.

She said: "They have been as diverse as PIP payments for disabled constituents, problems with child support, supporting local businesses, and securing compensation from utility companies.

"Constituent contacts already number in the thousands, with the vast majority of contacts made by email or by social media, such as Twitter or Facebook."

Recently Kirsten showed her support to the new SNP MSPs for Renfrewshire South, Renfrewshire North and West and Paisley.
