THOUSANDS of walkers from across Scotland took part in the gruelling Kiltwalk challenge on Sunday.

They were joined by X-Factor finalist Sam Callahan and even managed a quick selfie with Sir Tom Hunter.

Treckers tackled the 26-mile route from Hampden Park in Glasgow’s southside to Balloch on the shores of Loch Lomond.

Barrhead’s community radio station Pulse 98.4 and their breakfast team joined forces with The News to raise much needed funds for the Les Hoey DreamMaker Foundation.

So far the team has raised hundreds of pounds with a grand total yet to be totted up.

Gus Michael, breakfast show DJ, said: “It was a tough slog but we managed to get there in the end.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better day to do it; it wasn’t too warm and it wasn’t too cold.

“There will be a few sore legs and feet about the place for the rest of the week but it was all worth it for a fantastic cause.”

The route took walkers from Hampden to Glasgow Green, then on to the Transport Museum on the banks of the Clyde before travelling all the way to Yoker Clydebank at the Playdrome.

From there they followed the Clyde Canal to Bowling, passing under the Erskine Bridge and on to Dumbarton.

There was one final rest stop before the final five mile walk to Balloch.

Barrhead News reporter Sean Rooney said: “I think quite a few people underestimated it, I know I did and I couldn’t believe how far it was.

“But I am proud of myself and the rest of the team. for getting it done. It was a fantastic experience.

“The camaraderie amongst the walkers is a very special thing, and everyone was raising money for fantastic causes.

“Thank you to everyone who has donated to myself and the guys from Pulse 98.4 for the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation.”
