THE BRIG Inn presented ACCORD Hospice with a cheque for £1,000 at its annual Pensioners Day.

Fundraising manager Ken Mathie was in attendance at the event on April 15 to collect donation and praised the Barrhead pub for all the charitable work it has carried out in recent years on behalf of ACCORD.

Based at Morton Avenue in Paisley, the hospice, which depends on the financial support of its community, has been providing specialist palliative care to its patients since 1982.

Ken used the opportunity to highlight just how important charitable donations like the one made by The Brig Inn are to ACCORD when he explained that £2.9 million - around £5,000 per day - is required each year to run the service.

The Cross Arthurlie Street bar has raised £9,500 for ACCORD over the last couple of years which has helped out at its Hawkhead wards and with work at the Outreach Centre at Royal Alexandria Hospital.

The presentation of the cheque, handed over by owner Bud Gauld and his wife Mary, was followed by a three-course meal for each of the elderly patrons as well as a few liquid refreshments.

The Brig Inn also held a series of free bingo games, as well as a raffle to help boost funds.
