Pooches will be putting their best paw forward for Lochwinnoch’s first ever Westie Walk.

Up to 50 West Highland Yorkshire Terriers are expected to descend on Castle Semple for a charity stroll and picnic.

The event will take place on Sunday, April 17 at 11am to raise cash for Westie Rescue Scotland.

So far the group have hosted an event at Vogrie Country Park in Edinburgh which saw around 30 Westies attend and hundreds of pounds raised for the shelter.

However, event coordinator Nicole Robertson, 25, anticipates the Lochwinnoch event to be even bigger.

The walk will give groups of pooch lovers the chance to congregate for a chat and to let their canine friends meet.

The day will begin at the visitor centre and is expected to last an hour and half.

Then the group will meet at the end for a picnic, home baking, raffle and mingle.

Raffle prizes include a range of doggie treats including Westie jumpers, collars and shampoos.

There will also be a competition judging the dogs with categories including cutest, youngest and oldest dog.

Rosettes will also be given to the dog the judge wants to take home and the ASBO award for the naughtiest dog.

Pooches will also be invited to show off their party pieces and tricks.

Organiser Nicole Robertson said: “There are currently 18 dogs in the care of Westie Rescue Scotland who look after dogs who are eligible to be rehomed.

“The Lochwinnoch Westie Walk hopes to raise funds for Angus the Westie who will be undergoing eye surgery this year. "

“Anyone can take part whether they have a Westie dog or not. I’ll be taking my dog Jimmy along on a pram.

“We hope that this will be the first of many walks taking place in Scotland throughout the Summer.”

A recommended entry fee is £2 which can be donated on the day.
