One of Paisley’s favourite pubs is set to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt for the The World’s Biggest Quiz.

Abbey Bar will be host to one of over 1,300 identical quizzes taking place in pubs, clubs and bars across the UK hoping to break the record.

The world’s largest multi-venue quiz is set to take place on Sunday, February 7 at 7.30pm.

Organised by PubAid, in conjunction with JustGiving, the aim of the evening is to raise money for hundreds of good causes and charity.

A secondary aim is to try an break the Guinness World Record for the largest multi-venue quiz.

PubAid estimate that between 50,000 and 75,000 pub quizzers will be participating, with over 800 different charities benefitting from the evening’s activity.

Paisley Abbey Bar manager, Yvonne McGillivray said: “We got an e-mail through from the organisers and thought why not?

“It would be great if we could break a world record but obviously it is important to fundraise too.

“We usually have a pub quiz once a week but not so much fundraising ones, though we have had a few charity events here before.

“Our chosen charity is the Accord Hospice as it is close to our customers hearts as some of our regulars need the care from them.

“I know some pubs are bringing in local MPs as quiz masters but one of our customers Michael Stewart will be hosting ours, as he has done so in the past.

“Hopefully the evening will go well, there’s always a bit of playful rivalry between the teams but we always have a good laugh.”

The event will allow 5 people per team with a maximum of 10-12 groups on the night.

It will cost £1 per head to take part in the quiz with raffle tickets costing £1 per person.

Yvonne is still looking out for prizes from local businesses however, wine, spirits and chocolates are already up for grabs.

Quizzers can get in touch via the Abbey Bar Facebook page or by coming into the pub to sign up or donate prizes.

Co-founder of PubAid, Keith Knowles, added: “I’m sure we’ll manage to break the world record for the largest multi venue quiz, but the night will also be another great chance for pubs to in the UK to raise money for charity.

“The quiz will help to showcase all the great work that the pubs in the UK do every year.”
