BARRHEAD'S community radio station can now be heard as far as Falkirk as it goes digital.

Pulse 98.4 has officially dropped its "FM" moniker as it rolls out on DAB digital radio this month.

With one of its key antenna up and running it can now be heard clearly in Motherwell and even as far as Falkirk and Livingston.

And breakfast show DJ and station manager Gus Michael believes it is thae start of big things for the St Luke's High School based station.

He said: "It has been a long time coming but we are finally up and running on digital radio.

"It has made a massive difference to our reception across Glasgow's east end and we are drawing in more and more listeners all the time.

"Obviously we are a not for profit station, but this wider range gives us a lot of scope to increase our advertising revenue which we can plow back into the station to expand and improve."

The station faced a rocky 2015 as it moved buildings from Barrhead High School's former janitors house after being given a two week ultimatum due to impending demolitions.

However the demolitions have never taken place, and throughout the year antenna issues and a long running behind the scenes saga to get the DAB up and running has caused signal drops for listeners.

However now the station is going from strength to strength after settling in its new home.

Gus continued: "We are now Scotland's largest community radio station and we feel that we can begin to compete for listeners with some of the larger commercial stations, which is fantastic given our humble roots."

The News is a regular feature on the station as reporter Sean Rooney co-hosts every Wednesday morning from 6.30am with updates and reviews from that week's edition of The News.

Pulse can be listened into online using the TuneIn radio app, on 98.4FM frequency or on DAB digital radio.
