PC Gerard Kelly remains in a critical condition in a Dundee hospital after a mysterious stag-do accident.

He was found lying face down in a St Andrews lane on Sunday, November 1.

It is thought he remains in a “serious” condition in Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital after suffering head and spinal injuries, and it is believed he may have fallen – possibly from height.

Police have ruled out foul play in the case, after initial reports suggested that he may have been the victim of a brutal assault.

The 26-year-old, from East Kilbride, had been on a stag night with friends in the Fife town before being separated from his group.

Friends, family and colleagues in the police force in Barrhead, where Mr Kelly works, have been offering messages of support all week.

A local source said: “He is still in a bad way, and he has undergone several emergency operations to try and relieve some of the ongoing affects of his injuries.

“All of our thoughts are still with him and his family.” His family have been in close and constant contact with his colleagues in East Renfrewshire.

His family released a statement earlier this week thanking people for their good wishes.

They said: “Our family and Jen (Mr Kelly’s girlfriend) would like to thank all our friends and family for their continued support.

“Thanks are also extended to the police and hospital staff for their continued efforts. Messages of support are very much appreciated.

“We ask that you keep Gerry in your thoughts and prayers.” PC Kelly was a regular at community meetings and events in his time as a community policeman, attending Barrhead Community Council and was also well known in the local schools.

Recently his role had temporarily changed to that of a response officer operating out of Barrhead Police Station on Bank Street.
