Mark Stewart, 18, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday in connection with alleged hoax calls that saw three Barrhead schools evacuated.

Calls were made to Barrhead High School, St Mark’s Primary School and St Luke’s High School in September.

Mr Stewart faces 12 charges including three cases of alleged wilful fireraising and six alleged bomb hoaxes under section 51 the Criminal Law Act of 1977.

He also faces two charges of improper use of the public electronic communication network under the Communications Act of 2003.

Hundreds of pupils were forced to evacuate on Wednesday, September 16, after the schools received what was described as “malicious phone calls” by police.

Pupils were later able to return to class after a bomb disposal expert and a sniffer dog combed the premises.

On June 17 of this year St Luke’s High School school was allegedly set on fire.

Mr Stewart was bailed after appearing from custody pending further reports, and a date has not been set for his next appearance.
