INSPIRATIONAL people in Barrhead's community football schemes are being given the opportunity to be nominated for their hard work as part of the SFA Community Awards. The scheme is aimed at people who make a big difference in bringing football to the community and promoting home-grown talent both on and off the field.

Anyone who believes they know a local unsung footy hero are being urged to put in their nominations for the awards in as soon as possible.

Jim Murphy, MP for East Renfrewshire, believes it is important that volunteers are appreciated for what they do.

He said: "Grassroots football is the lifeblood of the game, and the Community Awards are a way of rewarding those unsung heroes who give up their free time to make it possible for kids to play and show their potential.

"I know there are a lot here in Barrhead. With nominations now open, there is plenty of time to put forward your recommendations to recognise your football hero." Regional winners of the awards will be selected in August and shortlisted in the national categories.

Categories that you can nominate your hero in include: Best Volunteer in Youth Football, Best Volunteer in Schools Football and Best Volunteer in Adult Football.
