ROB ROY NO EARLY BIRDS
By Steven McArthur
NEILSTON’S requests for an international-dodging early kick-off fell on deaf ears on with Saturday’s opponents Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.
It is no secret that the Brig O’Lea club are having a bleak spell, and made an effort to have the game moved to 1pm to fit around the international and boost the crowd, but Rob Roy declined the invitation.
The Farmer’s Boys have not had a home fixture in the last four weekends, and no match in the last two, and after Saturday’s home meeting face another two away days.
Manager Colin Lindsay (above) has been unable to further add to the squad since last signing Alan McIntyre, and the committee had a meeting on Monday night to discuss budgetary concerns, amongst other business, as the team prepared to travel to Greenock for a bounce game.
Also at the meeting, George Walker was confirmed as Neilston president, moving up from his position as vice president. Ex-president Willie Kennedy stepped down earlier in the year, but will remain as part of the club in some capacity and look after the park.
On the field, Neilston only have one win to their credit so far in the Stagecoach Premier Division, having beat Cumnock 4-3, while Rob Roy are further up the table on eight points.
In their last outing, Neilston demolished Muirkirk 5-1 in the cup, but it is league form that Neilston will have to find soon or they will find themselves dragged into a relegation battle at the foot of the table.
