RAIN FRUSTRATES LIE'S FINAL PLANS

ARTHURLIE’S trip to Maryhill for the Sectional League Cup final has been put on hold, as Mother Nature continues to play havoc with junior fixtures.

Lie were scheduled to meet Shotts Bon Accord in the final of the competition, but the game was abandoned early yesterday due to lying water on the pitch.

This most recent call-off means that Lie have been out of action since September 20, when they drew 2-2 with Pollok in the West of Scotland Cup before crashing out on penalties.

Manager Mark Cameron had hoped last night’s glamour tie would go ahead, especially after a home league fixture with Glenafton was called off at the weekend.

The Arthurlie boss said: “The game being called off on Saturday was definitely a bad thing for us, as we were looking for a game.

“We had the boys in for training instead, and again on Monday night and had Shotts watched. They won 5-0, but I was confident, and the situation effects them too.

“It was waterlogged [last night] so they have put it off, and I am very much disappointed. We had a specific training session on Monday to prepare and that is now wasted, but there is nothing we can do about the weather.”

Arthurlie now turn their attention to a trip to Ayrshire to meet Cumnock in a league match on Saturday. Campbell Money’s side have also struggled so far this term in the Stagecoach Premier Division, with the two teams occupying the bottom two spots.

Asked if this lay-off at least gives his players time to gear up for the match — where both teams will be looking for their first league win — Cameron said: “If anything it gives us a bigger headache since it’s been three weeks since we had a game.

“I guess that’s the way with life in the fast lane. We just have to get on with it. The weather dictates what we can do, but now we just have to prepare for Saturday.

“It’s a critical game for both teams.”

The re-scheduled Sectional League Cup final will, weather permitting, take place on Monday 27 October at Lochburn Park, Maryhill, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
