ON THE UP
By Robert Burns
ARTHURLIE FC President Ian Robertson has told how his team are on the up and ready for any challenges that come their way.
Ian said how Lie have worked hard in training over the summer for the season ahead.
And he revealed the league will be the club’s main aim.
He said: “Arthurlie are a team on the up, we have a squad packed full of skill and hunger and we will improve on last season.
“ Our aim as a club is to build every season on the previous one both on and off the park. As you can see we have done a lot of work on the park this summer which will hopefully make a difference during the coming months.”
Ian also explained his admiration for boss Mark Cameron and the impact he has made on the club.
He said: “Over the summer Mark has virtually worked non-stop for Arthurlie. Scouting players, attempting to sign players, organising pre season fixtures, or even down at the park helping with the ground work that needed to be done, he’s been ever-present.”
On the signing front, Ian did announce some new names. Derek Scrimigour – an ex St Mirren and Renfrew Juniors player - has joined as a player/coach.
And Ian is also pushing Peter Shaw for the number one jersey.
He said: “ We have been successful on a few occasions but obviously we have missed out on other targets. We as a whole attempt to be as professional as possible as a club and on that basis I cannot mention any of the players we have currently targeted although I would like to assure the supporters of Arthurlie we are still considering a couple of signings that will hopefully come to a happy conclusion for us.
“If a player who we feel is of the standard that we are looking to attract to the club then we will do everything we can to get them here.”
Lie will swing into action this Saturday in a friendly against Clydebank.
Kick off is 2pm and not 3pm as previously stated.
Also on Saturday season tickets for the coming campaign are: adult £40, concessions £20 and junior £10.
For the first time a new ticket will be available to supporters. The 1874 Club ticket will cost £100 a season, which includes a season ticket plus refreshments pre, mid and post match in the newly refurbished 1874 club cabin adjacent to the changing rooms.
Contact any committee member for more information.
Another big match is on the horizon at Dunterlie is The Eric Hickey Charity Shield. The first - of hopefully an annual event – which takes place on August 10 at 3pm.
Past players from Arthurlie and Pollok will take to the field with some guest players with three local charities set to benefit.
We are currently looking for more people to get involved with sponsoring the event, so if your interested please contact robertburns101@yahoo.com.
Next week we will give you more information on who will be playing and the charities involved.
