DOUBLE AGONY FOR LIE AND HUGHES
By Frank Cassidy
As well as dropping two vital home points in the relegation dog-fight, they also lost two players to injury to leave the squad deleted in the crucial run-in.
Craig Baxter damaged ligaments in his foot, and although the injury is not as worse as was first feared, it has emerged that the big defender will miss three or four weeks.
But all events were over-shadowed by a horrific injury to Martin Hughes with less than 30 minutes remaining, ironically involving a former team-mate, Barry Nicholls.
Supporters heard the extent of the injury on Sunday and were stunned to learn that Martin had suffered a double leg break and a displacement fracture to his tibula and fibula.
He will be out of the game for a very long time as the long recovery process takes place, while the team battle to stay in the top league after a run of poor home form.
Because of the 1-1 draw between Auchinleck and Cumnock on Saturday, Arthurlie’s scheduled match with Talbot is automatically postponed as the cup takes priority.
On the league front, Irvine Meadow did Lie a favour by beating Shotts at the weekend, but the away match with them is shaping up to be a decisive encounter.
