Hoops' girls trial for Scotland 15s
CELTIC Girls FC team-mates, Kirsten McGuire, Mellisa Lambert and Demi McCulloch, are set to take part in international trials.
The talented trio, who sharpened their skills while playing with Barrhead Boys Club, are headed for Stenhousemuir, where they will play in a match at Ochilview Park.
They are hoping to make the Scotland Schoolgirls under-15 squad that will be playing in a tournament in Ireland that kicks-off on April 11.
Meanwhile, the girls’ career under the wing of the Scottish Champions is blossoming and Mellisa and Kirsten made history by playing in the first ever Old Firm ladies match.
It was a no-scoring draw at state-of-the-art New Petershill Park in December, the same score as the second encounter between the clubs at Bellshill.
But while the opening goal has still to be scored by an Old Firm girl, the under-14 Celtic girls, for who the Barrhead girls play, are undefeated and going for the Scottish Cup.
There is so much to look forward to for Barrhead High pupil, Demi, and her two colleagues, Kirsten and Mellisa, who both attend St Luke’s High.
As well as tasting success for the Celts and playing in an under-15 international match in Perth, that the Scots won easily 4-0 at McDermaid Park.
Now, if they are chosen to wear the dark blue of their country, there is the opportunity to play in Finland and Holland later in the year.
Meanwhile, midfielder Demi, right-back Kirsten and striker Mellisa are concentrating on making sure that they keep on the move in a history-making career.
And driving their ambition is Kirsten’s mum, June, who is the girls’ chaffeur and takes them to all corners of the country to play their matches.
She said: “It’s been great to watch them progress and see them move up in the football world, I don’t mind providing the transport to matches and training.
“Mellisa looks ready to move up an age-group which is fantastic and great encouragement to the three girls, who won their latest match — 1-0 against Hibs.”
