Subs support Boys Club under 14s
By Frank Cassidy
BARRHEAD Boys Club under-14s have a new sponsor — Subway, the sandwich company that has recently opened up on Main Street.
As part of the organisation that has more than 300 kids involved at the club, their policy is that football is far more than just a game. It teaches youngsters discipline, social skills, as well as keeping them all fit and active. The club is one of the largest youth organisations in East Renfrewshire, and proud to represent the community home and away.
Officials have been pressing East Renfrewshire Council to acknowledge its contribution to the community, by supporting the campaign for the development of an astro-grass ‘all weather’ facility which was promised as phase two of the recent Cowan Park improvements. Under-14s coach, Brian Boyd, said: “ Why should kids from Barrhead be forced during the winter months to travel to the other end of East Renfrewshire and even into the next local authority area, for midweek training sessions ? — Crossmill has been continually vandalised, which has unfortunately forced most of the coaches to look elsewhere”.
Subway manager, Bjorn Aaen, said: “Subway Barrhead, an independently owned local business, is delighted to support Barrhead Boys Club.
“We feel it’s important to support local community initiatives, and with over 300 members, the club is one of the largest youth organisations in East Renfrewshire.”
