A £100,000 drugs charge against a Barrhead family-of-seven is not being pursued by the Crown Office, the News can exclusively reveal.

Criminal proceedings against the Mohammed family are not being contemplated - despite police raiding the family home last year and allegedly recovering heroin with a street value of £100k.

Their Hillside property in the wealthy area of the town dubbed ‘Millionaires Row’ was raided by Drug Enforcement units and CID on October 18, 2007.

Three women, Nusrat Mohammed, 50, Samia Mohammed, 26, and Zeemat Mohammed, 23, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday October 19 charged with allegedly supplying, possession and possession with intent to supply.

And three men Sultan Mohammed, 49, Anil Mohammed, 28, and Fisal Mohammed, 20, appeared alongside them charged with alleged supply, possession and intent to supply.

Shahbaz Ahmed, 27, was also charged with alleged supply, possession and possession with intent to supply and obstructing police with a warrant. The case against all of the accused was continued without plea at the first hearing.

All of the accused were registered as living at the same address in Hillside Road at the time of the early evening raid.

Now mystery surrounds why the the Crown prosecution service has failed to bring the case to court.

One shocked local told the News: “I was driving home from work when I saw the special dog branch outside the house with officers surrounding it last year. I remember it being the talk of the town.”

A spokeswoman for the Crown office said: “In relation to the seven individuals criminal proceedings are not being contemplated at this time.”

When our reporter asked why criminal proceedings were not being pursued the spokeswoman refused to comment further.

A spokesman for Strathclyde police said: “It is a matter for the Procurator Fiscal to decide upon further action.”
