BLAST MAN FOUND DEAD

A BARRHEAD man who blew his hand off in a botched bomb attack has been found dead.

Police discovered Peter Conlon’s body on the floor of a run down flat.

The 39-year-old appeared last year at Paisley Sheriff Court on charges of assault to permanent disfigurement – but the case was halted because Conlon was receiving treatment at a psychiatric unit in Dykebar Hospital.

The dad-of-three was booted out of his Kerr Street flat last year after terrorising neighbours.

Police are not treating Conlon’s death as suspicious and it is believed he died of a drug overdose.

He was found slumped on the floor of a run down flat in Ferguslie Park, Paisley.

The sick thug had a history of violence and was jailed for 18 months in 2006 for causing a ‘life endangering’ explosion at Jafar Stores in Barrhead.

He blew off three fingers when the powerful firework he was holding exploded.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard that he downed a bottle of Jack Daniels and six cans of strong lager before walking into the store on Arthurlie Avenue with the firework – but it blew up before reaching its target and sent parts of Conlon’s hand-later amputated – flying through the air.

He plead guilty to causing an explosion likely to endanger life and placing shop workers Asima and Bano Hussain in a state of fear and alarm.

After being released from prison he was housed in notorious Kerr Street but was evicted last year for anti-social behaviour.

The Barrhead News revealed how a pensioner was forced to flee her home after Conlon subjected her to a vicious assault.

May MacNamara, 72, was forced to declare herself homeless after the brute tried to strangle her – leaving her too scared to return to her Kerr Street home.

Speaking to the Barrhead News she said: “What he did to me was awful. I am still not over it.

“I don’t know what to say about him dying except he was just a bad and menacing person.”

A spokesperson for Strathclyde Police said: “We can confirm that a man’s body was discovered at a flat in Ferguslie Park on Saturday August 2.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”

At the time of going to press, Conlon’s family were unavailable for comment.
