An Uplawmoor man is trekking for the fourth time to raise funds for charity and is looking for kind-hearted locals to pledge their support.

Robin Miller has started his fund-raising campaign for trekking through Ladakh in northern India in favour of Maggie’s Centre for Cancer Care.

He and his girlfriend Sheena Young plan to walk for four days and climb up to 4,500 metre.

Robin said: “We’re starting this September and since this is my third trek I can now handle all that peeing in the bushes. I’ve always shied away from asking for sponsorship money as I felt money could be raised through other means, but now the figure stands at £7,000, since there are two of us”.

He has already been on two trekking adventures in South America, namely Peru and Chile, in order to raise money for Cancer UK and Across the Divide. He also ran 2007 New York Marathon.

Now Robin is planning to support Maggie’s Centre for Cancer Care, which help people adjust to living with cancer. Its pioneering support programme has been developed for patients, their carers, family and friends.

The 25-year-old said that his motivation in raising money for charities is of a personal nature.

He said: “One of my family friends died, and some other dear people have been affected by the illness. I enjoy travelling and I’d like to see the world, and at the same time I am doing something worthwhile. I want to help, to make the difference”.

There are about 50 items on auction on eBay, among which signed Dr Who memorabilia and two tickets to see Mamma Mia musical in London’s West End. He has so far raised about £1,000, and the items are selling non-stop but he is still far from the mark.

Robin added: “Even the smallest amount will make a difference, and whoever sponsors us will get a huge thank-you in every interview, every website and every newspaper article we do between now and the event”.
