`We're living in fear`
By Amanda Ramsden
Mum's baby safety worries over man on balcony
A terrified mum has told of the moment she feared for her baby’s safety — after a man climbed onto the balcony of her bedroom.
The woman claimed the man was trying to get access to another house, and described how she and other residents have been ‘a living hell’ because of one neighbour’s actions.
The mum, who asked not to be named, contacted the Barrhead News after the latest incident in Madras Place in Neilston.
And despite keeping a log of anti-social behaviour, she has slammed the council for not taking firmer action against the culprit.
She said: “Families have moved from this street all because of the actions of one person. She attracts trouble and along with the crowd she brings, terrorises everyone living here.
“I don’t even know if she should be living here.
“As far as we’re aware she has another house, but she stays with her family who don’t cause us any problems.
“Last year she disappeared for about six months — those months were so quiet — we could let our kids play into the street again.
“But then she came back and it was worse than ever. This is a nice street with good families, but we are all living in constant fear.”
The ‘final straw,’ said the mum, came two weekends ago when a man got involved in an alleged rammy in the street.
She said: “This guy, who I don’t think is even allowed into our street any more, appeared in the early hours of the morning.
“I think he was trying to get into the girl’s house but to do that he climbed onto the balcony of the room my baby daughter sleeps in.
“It was absolutely terrifying — but again it was down to this girl.
“I have been on to the council time and time again — but they won’t give us a straight answer.
`This is a great street to live in but this is driving families away. It’s just not fair.”
A spokesman for East Renfrewshire Council said: “Our housing service is aware of a complaint and they are taking the appropriate action. Enquiries are ongoing.”
